So here's my dilemma- below is my dining room, my dining room has not changed it's appearance in the last year. It's beginning to bore me.

I thought I'd use a tip from Raquel and use a plain table cloth and dress it up with a ribbon- endless possibilities.
Georgia Garden Party Tablescape for M and J's farewell
EXCEPT- we eat dinner in the dining room every night and I am terrified that my white hem stitched table cloth can't hold up to daily use by Kris and I, the fine linen destruction twins. SO do I deal with the boredom, do a new centerpiece, maybe lemons on a cake stand?- or eat in the kitchen for the next month or two. This may seem silly to you but it has me positively paralyzed.

I'm confused. Maybe this is a Southern thing, but while the ribbons look absolutely lovely, I can't imagine eating around them every night. And a white table cloth would last about 2 seconds in our house. But what do I know, I'm a sloppy Yankee.
What if you got a new table runner and decorated it with ribbons? That way it could stay out of most of the mess and still be the look you are going for. A new centerpiece would help too--I love lemons like you suggested, maybe pile them around a candle in a bowl or on your cakestand? Flowers are always nice too, but that tends to be a pain since you have to refresh them frequently.
C- exactly our Yankee tendencies lead to the destruction of white tablecloths as well. We can manuever around ribbon but are Southern sensibilities are not yet that refined.
B- A NEW RUNNER!!! Brilliant. and coupled with a new lemon centerpiece- yes! I love it. Thank you!
Oh my gosh, is that really your dining room? You have an actual dining room? You guys are, like, so totally grown-ups.
Let me know when I should stop commenting.
ok, this from a middle aged old lady who is definitely a Yankee and bound to stay that way... If you really like the ribbons ( and they do like nice and dressy), why not put a clear plastic sheet over top of the whole thing. Easily removable, and replaceable. Plus, later on, it is harder for small fingers to grab ahold of.
