Pure Funk

Every time I hear a song that is of the 'Funk' genre, or resembles it (i.e. the Zebra's music on his around we go), I find myself declaring "This is Ben's theme song!" .. He also seems to enjoy Funk more than the other music he hears.
Ben exudes Funk .. .and I don't mean he has a dirty diaper. He is just cool as Funk, that is all there is to it.
I own the above album, by the way.. so don't think I don't have a lot of content to go by here..

Look a like meter

So a few people I know have put their faces in that look alike meter thing, and I NEVER agree with the results. So I'm doing my own. Sort of, whatever, I'm just putting up pictures of us at Ben's age because I think I'm finally beginning to believe that Ben may just look more like me than Kris. But you can decide.

It was unfortunately inevitable...

Or inevitably unfortunate. I'm not sure, but it has come to pass that Ben has been given his first nickname. And it's bad, oh it's bad.
If you know us at all, you know that we have wide ranging nicknames for each other, our pets and our friends. One name usually d(evolves) into another until the final result is hardly recognizable from the original.
For example:
Brody= Rody, The Rody Fuss, Rodiferous
Olivia- Skip, Skippy, Skippy Style
Nathan and Cari- Nate Dog and Warren C.; Natorious D-O-G, Nataar (refers to the entity of Nathan AND Cari)
Mitch and Jaillene- MiMo, J. Bird.
Maureen= Mo, Molicious, Marley
Kelli= Hooker, Hook (not self-explanatory)
Me= Woof, Woofie Town, Woofinator, Weasel, Weas, McWeas, McFly, Rex, T-Rex,T. Fang, Wanton Magic
Michelle (Sissy) = Paco, Pancho, Shazzamm
Kris- Poodle, Poods, Pudd, Puddle, Pootie, Pootie Tang, Clark (Griswold), Foot, Foot Fall, Fluff (when he needs a hair cut.)
And the worst disambiguation was poor Violet's.
In evolutionary order:
Violet
Velvet
Velcro
Vicious
Violence
Vehemoth
Vo he
Bo he ne ma
Bo he ne ma on the dance floor
Bohemian Cat City
Bohemian Rat City
Rat City
We look at pictures of her now, and say, "Awww Rat City, i miss her."

So of course, for Ben, it was only a matter of time. I'm exposing his alter ego to you now, in the hopes that it's exposure will cause us to stop using it, because he's been turning his head when we say it and it's just NOT O.K.

When Ben was about 3 months old I TIME OUT***There is great controversy surrounding the origin of this name- I'll allow Kris to weigh in momentarily*** TIME IN, I started to make noises that would make him smile. One day I made a sort of purring tongue rolling sound and added some blather to the end- and he loved it. It sounded like drdrdrdrdrdrdrdrdrdrrone-chi-chi!!! He would smile hugely. So I kept doing it. Then just "Rone Chi CHI!!!!!" was enough, and sometimes I'd mix it up and say it like my Italian grandfather would have: "Rone-Cheech!" And then I started calling HIM Rone Chi Chi or Rone Chi. "Awww RoneChi don't cry" "Hey RoneChiChi, what are you doing up from your nap?"
Which eventually just led to him being called Rone or The Rone.
"Aww he's such a Rone!" "Is The Rone napping?" "Hey Rone!"
So now my son turns his head, acknowledging the fact that we call him Rone. Again, not OK. So hopefully now that it's in the open we. can. just. stop.

Kris' side: When Ben was about a month old, I would notice that he would sometimes make a chewing motion when he would start to get 'half upset'.. so I started calling him 'Munchie' on a regular basis... I believe steph began with Rone Chi CHI!!! as an influence from hearing me calling him Munchie. Rone Chi CHI has taken the place of Munchie.. .he didn't really munch for very long anyway.

Ben at 7.5 months

Ben is changing and progressing so quickly that this post is practically obsolete by the time it's done.
Ben has added so many new skills in the last 4 weeks!
He can sit up totally and easily by himself.
He started crawling.
He started crawling really well.
He started crawling really fast.
He can sit up from lying down on his own.
He can kneel and hold onto something.
He can kneel without holding on to anything.
He started to pull up and before I could blog about it he started pulling up to standing.
We thought we were all figured out for naps and everything was clicking along perfectly and now he can suddenly stand in his crib, which changes everything. Today he was standing up and refused to lay down, I'd lay him down, he'd crawl over and stand up- Repeat for half an hour. I finally just left him (I went across the hall to my room) and then he got upset because he couldn't figure out how to get down. I think this can be avoided if Daddy moves the crib down again. We're supposed to do that right?
Ben makes all kinds of crazy noises, hisses, growls and shrieks.
He's still totally in love with the cat and dog. He sucks all of his fingers in varying combinations of cuteness. He's ticklish and giggles like a crazy man. He also thinks that when we throw his blocks in the air it's the most hilarious thing he's ever seen. Admittedly, he hasn't seen much, although he has seen The Tool Academy, soooooo there's that.
He's doing actual jumping in the Johnny Jump Up now, instead of that weird saggy sway.
Lastly we think he's deciding to wave, right now he just extends his arm and turns his hand up. It's so adorable. Ben is so friendly it's ridiculous. He has yet to meet a stranger, last night he let Bishop Obaikol just walk him all over the room and he never missed a beat. I can hand that baby to anyone! He doesn't complain or cry, unless he wants something, basically just to eat, but his cues are so easy to read this doesn't happen too often. He's the most easy going person I've met in my whole life. And he's a lot of fun, no matter how many toys I give him his favorites are empty boxes and water bottles. He's also terribly patient with me, I guess this all means that he's personality-wise just like his dad. I love that he throws these grown up expressions, he's my baby Zoolander. Ok that's enough bragging.

Waving

Yes, I can do this now.

My next feat is jumping...

Upgrades!

I had the monogram re-done on my chair slipcover in the dining room and Kris put up beadboard in the kitchen- check out the befores and afters!

Baby B on his way to his first Oyster Roast

Yesterday Ben was finally able to wear the first outfit I bought for him! It's still a touch big, but I had so much fun putting him in it and seeing him wear it, that I took a million pictures.

Oh no, are we going to do this again?

Ok, good enough?

Come on! I was smiling with my eyes!

Hmpf!

If I get the camera, you can't take any more pictures!

I've got it!

I just won't look at you! Mmmm, pacifier.

Will you EVER be satisfied?!

You're crazy, aren't you?

Mom, come on! Let's go play!

We're done?! Alright!

Church is not a fashion show- except when it is.

I can't tell you how many Sundays I had to hear my mom say, "Church is NOT a fashion show!!!" of course this was when I was past the age when she was allowed to mandate my apparel and so with the loss of her ability to coordinate her daughters she pretended that she didn't care. But you better be wearing pantyhose. As I was taking pictures of Ben in his little Ragsland outfit, I just basked in how much I love his baby outfits. It's too difficult to take a picture of him every Sunday or every time we go to the doctor, so while I have the time I thought I'd put on a fashion slideshow for you so you can see his year one fancy pants.
