New and improved!

We are re-dedicating this site to our family! We'll use this as a site we can all get together, virtually at least, to share news photos, recipes, book suggestions, and anything else we can think of!

Welcome Lynches!

Our Old Header

WE ARE.... Kris and Steph; and this is our running commentary on first time home ownership and DIY projects, autmotive maintenance, crafts, southern living, Penn State football, 17 year old dogs and vast right wing conspiracies. It's also how we'll keep our families updated on our progress in adulthood.

home improvement 1

So the paint job looks incredible, the dining room and kitchen are awesome. Pictures soon.

Kris is drilling the support structure for our bed back together- he had to dismantle the box spring to get it upstairs and he's going to attach the mirror to my dresser- woot.

We had planned on fixing the office up today, but after church we decided to get lunch and wound up at Uncle Bubba's on Tybee. It's owned by Paula Deen and her brother Bubba. It wasn't as cute as I thought it might be but the food was great.

We had fried pickles, Kris had the fried oyster Po'Bubba and I had the shrimp and grits. They were just drowned in butter and sherry and it was pretty much the richest dish I've ever had.

We came home and took naps. Or lapsed into a food coma, not really sure.

St. Paddy's Day in Savannah

So we survived. We made it home, spent hardly and money and had a great time. We woke up later than planned, but in no way day de-railing. Our biggest quandry though was trying to decide what to bring, we had beer, bring rolling cooler or not to bring rolling cooler? Bringing the cooler meant we'd have to go back to the car before going to the bars, at some indeterminate distance. But then that meant that we would have to carry the beer that same distance.... what to do?

Well we brought the cooler so we could also bring chairs. We stopped at Walmart to use the free ATM, get cups and sandwiches. and McDonald's breakfast. hmm

So we hit the road, and it was spooky, it was absolutely dead. We were about the only car on the road. Which led us to believe A. Saint Patrick's Day in Savannah isn't nearly the big deal everyone told us it was or B. Everyone had gotten downtown so early there wasn't anyone left. We finally decided that it was just our Yankee get up and go genes and that our slower moving sourthern neighbors were still just hung over frm the night before and going at their usual pace.

We were half right. The hardcore were there the casual observers would follow in about two hours. We were totally struck by the light hearted lawlessness of the day. Basically you can park anywhere as long as you're not blocking the road. Cars were parked on the medians, sidewalks, and everyone had their go-cups out at 9:00 am. So we found a spot not about 10 blocks from where we were meeting people and set off, well about halfway there we found a pseudo spot, if Kris were to back in perpendicular to two parked cars it could work. So I guarded the spot with my fiercest "I was born in the Bronx" face and Kris got the car- bonus!

We found Kris' co-workers and got down to the business of satisfying our tremendous thirst. The parade was four hours long, here's a few highlights:

Women run out and kiss soldiers and firefighters (who come from everywhere) so they all had lipstick kisses and it was adorable.
Kris and an actual Irishmen nearly brawled at the porta potty line.
A real marching band should wear track suits and have booty dancers

That's about it- we walked about 5.5 miles and by the time we got home we could barely walk.

sober for 56 days

I want to smoke crack still.

Automotive Maintenance -- Volume 1

Jetta - Needs oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, cabin air filter, replacing the Mass Airflow sensor (MAF) because I think it may be going bad... not sure though, but it's rare that they last this long.

Cabriolet - I need a new alternator.. doesn't hold voltage above 12v under high accessory load... needs a timing belt in 3k miles, too.... I'm debating if I should try to do that one myself.... Our painter neighbor knows a guy... I may go with him for that one

Olds Silhouette - Parasitic electrical drain.... can't figure this one out either.. haven't spent enough time on it... don't want to either.. definitely going to mechanic for this one.

Jeep CJ-7 - Needs new power steering return line.... needs new right rear wheel cylinder..(that one is a long story......guy who barely spoke english convinced me I needed new brakes... and I stripped my bleed screw when I was putting the new brakes on..... I didn't need new brakes, either.. figured that out after I took the drum assembly apart..)... gotta get this thing going good so I can go four-wheeling around the lake.

what's worse (or better)

The fact that my wife knows and cares about NCAA basketball is awesome. I can brag about that one... unfortunately, I know and care much less about it... so my wife knows more about sports than I do... in fact, she made my NCAA bracket for my pool at work... and I have no input around the water cooler about it.

I'm just going to go smoke some crack and whine about my life, and brag about my wife.

Watching "Intervention"

This show makes me feel like I'm on drugs.. In fact, I want to do drugs right now. I want to get in a fight with my family members and be out of control. I want to know what it would be like to be jacked up on crack and heroin, and whine about my life. I want to be violent and incoherent. This is how the show makes me feel.

Steph: "I mean, honestly Kris."

Mile Marker One

Twas the night before Saint Patrick's day and all through the Lynch house -- our painter is still busy making it nice. It's 10:19, he's still here. He's painted two rooms today, we can hardly believe it. We had our own foray into painting with the bedrooms, I'm really non-commital regarding the results of our handiwork. To say we did well is a major overstatement, but it's not a mess either. It just is, could be better, could be worse. Here's a rundown of our palette so far:

Master Bedroom: Lemon Drop (yellow)
Guest Bedroom: Icelandic (light light lilac) ok it's not really icelandic yet because I decided I like the color of the half tint primer better and it's going to be a test of wills to determine if the room ends up fully painted.
Office:
Dining Room: Botticelli Red
Kitchen: Celestial (it's a blue, light blue)

We're not going to painting any other rooms- to avoid the romper room feel.

MAJOR DRAMA earlier today. So Sherwin Williams suggested tinting the primer gray so the red would show more clearly. Well about four hours ago I looked up from the laptop and the tv, where I was busily monitoring the March Madness for Kris' brackets, to discover the walls of my dining room were gray and scarlet. I was overcome with nausea, I started hearing Hang On Sloopy, I felt powerless against biased referees and had the overwhelming urge to kill bucks.

Luckily Eric, our painter and neighbor, quickly remedied this situation, but I may never recover knowing the ugly that leers at me beneath the surface of my dining room walls.

Well dinner has arrived, pizza it is. There will be more posting tomorrow after we discover what Saint Patricks Day in Savannah is like.
